Two people and an index.
Quarry is made by a small studio that got tired of losing things it had written down.
We started on this in 2023, after the third time one of us went looking for a paragraph written years earlier and gave up. The tools to find it existed. None of them would look at a folder of files on a laptop without first copying that folder somewhere else.
How it is paid for
Licences. There is no investor, no free tier funded by something else, and nothing sold on the side. Two people work on this full time, and the price of the Pro licence is set so that can continue at the number of customers we actually have.
That shape has consequences worth saying out loud. We will not add a service you have to log into, because we would then have to keep it running longer than we can promise. We move slowly on the parts that would need a server behind them, and quickly on the parts that are files on your disk.
What we will not do
- Upload your files, or their contents, or a summary of their contents.
- Add an account. The licence key is checked once, offline, against a signature.
- Ship an update that removes a feature you paid for in the version you are running.
Where the work happens
The issue tracker is public and it is the roadmap. A feature that is not in it is not being worked on, including the ones we have said yes to in conversation. If something you need is missing, filing it there is more effective than asking us directly, because that is the list we read on Monday morning.
